Monitoring of Volcanic Activity Near Nishinoshima Island, November 2014

On November 20, 2013, a volcanic eruption was confirmed to have occurred in the vicinity of Nishinoshima Island in the Ogasawara Islands.
PASCO has been monitoring volcanic activity near Nishinoshima Island using the TerraSAR-X Synthetic Aperture Radar satellite since November 22, 2013.

Birth and growth of a new island off Nishinoshima Island observed using the TerraSAR-X Synthetic Aperture Radar satellite

This footage was created by stringing together images acquired up to February 27, 2015 and shows the birth and growth of a new island off Nishinoshima Island.
